Alexa gets her own MTV show

Alexa Chung is set to front her own show in the US.

MTV's The Alexa Chung Show will be a mix of celebrity chat, music and online interaction with viewers, according to the music channel.

"We just all really fell for her," said David Sirulnick, MTV's executive vice president for news and production.

The idea is to introduce Alexa's show - starting on June 15 - at midday for young viewers home for the summer and, if it works out well, move later to an after-school time slot.

Facebook and Twitter are working with MTV in the series.

"The show will air one hour a day," Sirulnick said. "But for the other 23 hours we want viewers to be engaged with Alexa and what is on the show."

Sirulnick said MTV has been searching for the last few years for someone to build a show around.

Alexa, who has been on TV shows since she was 18 and dates Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner, is a fresh face able to relate to both stars and the audience at home, network executives said.

Can Alexa Chung save MTV? That is what the execs at the American music network are hoping after they recruited the Brit star to host a new daily culture show, set to include audience interaction via social networking sites such as Twitter.

The Alexa Chung Show is a one-hour daily entertainment show, which will feature a mix of live performances, celebrity chit-chat, and the best of the web. There will be a heavy focus on audience participation, with MTV collaborating with Facebook and Twitter in the way that Total Request Live asked viewers to vote on their favourite music videos.

Alexa recently threw a farewell bash and packed up her bags for the bright lights of New York. Her boyfriend, Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, is also said to be leaving London to join Alexa in the Big Apple, much to the displeasure of his fellow bandmates.

Alexa Chung plans to bring her unique sense of British style to her latest project fronting a prime-time, daytime show on MTV in the USA.

The premise of the new show is that Alexa is the new Brit girl in New York and needs to make friends, so she invites them onto her show. Speaking to WWD she said that (on screen) ' I will wear what I always wear from day-to-day'.

'I don’t do a normal job. So I have to have more clothes than most people.' she says. Which should help her wardrobe her daily appearances which begin on 15th June.

But despite the need to flash her fashion credentials everyday, she has not signed up a stylist yet - and has no immediate plans to.

Alexa has also said she's looking forward to being more anonymous in the US, but we reckon living with her boyfriend, Arctic Monkey Alex Turner, in fashionable Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and fronting MTV's hottest new show will mean instant fame for one of our most stylish exports stateside.

I'm so glad Alexa Chung has her own show. I think she really deserves it. She's really sparky, hilarious, and an all-around fun person. I also look up to her for her inspiration on fashion. My style is very romantic bohemian and she has the childish-granny-ish taste to my urbany-romance. I love her! I like to watch her old popworld shows, behind the scenes foto shoots-nylon tv, elle, etc, and her inside scoops on lagerfeld and gaultier. she's so sick! I also think she has great taste in music. in general, I'm a fan. yours,

This was absolutely one of the best shows on MTV that featured A-list celebrities. Since TRL was canceled I could always rely on Alexa to have some of my favorite celebrities as guest.
